It's like a game of 52 pick up, but with weeks instead
July 1st marked one whole year of Magical Boy Basil!
When Beckah and I set out to create Magical Boy Basil (so much longer than a year ago, truth be told) we wanted to create something truly special. We wanted to create a high quality comic with LGBT leads that we could share with our woefully under-served community. Along with this goal, we set out a few ground rules for our vision of success. We aimed for:
- Consistency. We aim to never miss a deadline.
- Professionalism. As in, we take the comic seriously and produce it to the best of our ability. This isn't a hobby to us, it's a passion.
- Connection. We strive to reach out to our audience and connect with readers both through the comic itself and through personal relationships.
I'm really happy to report that 1 year into the publication of Magical Boy Basil, we've seen success in all three of those categories. In practicality, here's what it looks like:
76 Pages of High Quality Comic
On July 1st, 2016, we released 24 pages: the first full chapter of Magical Boy Basil. Since then, we've published one page per week without fail, which has resulted in the completion of chapters 2 and 3 just this past week.
3 Major Conventions
Over the past year, we were privileged to table at Flame Con, SPX, and BishounenCon, as well as making appearances at several smaller venues (like our favorite comic shop, Aw Yeah Comics in Harrison.)
Our First Published Comic Book
On February 1st this year, we launched a Kickstarter for the print production of Issue #1, which turned out to be a success! (Thanks everyone!) We also remained on schedule for the entire production of that project.
Over 1000 Readers, Most of them Regulars
1,159 via social media (to be exact) and over 1500 unique visitors to our website, most of them regulars. Over the past year, we've grown our social media networks from nothing to something, built (and rebuilt) our website with reader feedback, and we reach out every day to connect with you!
Overall, a smashing success
Beckah and I are proud of how far Magical Boy Basil has come in the past year, and we're looking forward to keeping it up!
Beyond staying on track, we have a few goals for this upcoming year. We hope to Kickstart issues #2 and #3, meet some financial goals through our Patreon and shop, double our audience, and attend FlameCon, BishounenCon (if it comes up again!), and potentially BlerDCon. Can we do it? We think so!
And of course, we wouldn't have been able to do any of this without you, our wonderful readers, so thank you so much for making the magic happen.
